Did you find what you wanted?

A few people over at SplitCoast Stampers were talking about what to put inside these fabulous 1″ x 8″ cello bags that are new in Stampin’ Up’s Holiday Mini Catalog. One woman mentioned honey sticks, and I saw a lightbulb go off in my head! What a perfect Rosh Hashanah gift! I printed out the greetings for the middle on Whisper White cardstock, and then used the little apple stamp from Family Business to decorate them. They say Shana Tova in Hebrew on one side, and Have A Sweet New Year in English on the other. I probably could have squeezed a third honey stick in each bag, but I like the way it looks with two.

Stamps: Family Business
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, More Mustard, Whisper White
Other: 1″x 8″ Cello Bags, Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8″ Circle Punch, 1 1/4″ Circle Punch
If you are interested in creating these yourself, you can download this PDF to print the Rosh Hashanah greetings for the center.

When I create my Rosh Hashanah cards, I always try to use a shade of red to represent apples and a shade of gold to represent honey. Now that Stampin’ Up has Cherry Cobbler embossing powder, I knew I had to use it for a Rosh Hashanah card! I combined it with Brushed Gold cardstock to make this gorgeous card.

Stamps: Shalom
Ink: VersaMark
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Brushed Gold
Other: Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder, Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, Champagne Shimmer Paint, Finial Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Big Shot
I sprayed the Very Vanilla piece with homemade shimmer mist after I ran it through the Big Shot. I combined rubbing alcohol and a few drops of Champagne Shimmer Paint in a small spray bottle and sprayed it on to add a gold sheen to the vanilla piece. You can see it a little in the picture (click to enlarge), but it is really lovely in real life.

Oh yes, it’s getting close to that time of year! Not just the new school year, but Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. When I saw today’s Pals Paper Arts sketch, I knew it was time to make the first Rosh Hashanah card of the season.

I really love this sketch. It is so clean and simple. I remembered this Rosh Hashanah card I made last year, and decided to update it with this sketch. I used a small paint brush to put a little frost white shimmer paint on the bees’ wings.

Stamps: Every Little Bit, Season of Hugs, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Garden Green
Paper: Real Red, Whisper White, Basic Black, Brights Pattern Paper Stack
Other: Snow White Shimmer Paint
I may have to make a few more cards with this sketch. I really like it!

Tonight is my nephew Leo’s very first Rosh Hashanah, and I wanted to make a special card for him. I combined the apple and honey lunch box from the Season of Hugs stamp set with the adorable baby bear from Bear Hugs to make a sweet Rosh Hashanah card. I inked up the bear with a Stampin’ Write Marker to get rid of the B on the bib and the rattle in the bear’s hand.

Stamps: Bear Hugs, Season of Hugs, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Marina Mist, Real Red, Wild Wasabi, Daffodil Delight, Sahara Sand
Paper: Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Whisper White
Other: Marina Mist Taffeta Ribbon, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stamp-a-ma-jig
The little lunch box is cut out and popped up on a Stampin’ Dimensional. I made the “Sweet New Year” phrase by combining the “Sweet Treats” and “Happy New Year” stamps from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set. Amazing what you can do with a Stampin’ Write Marker and a Stamp-a-ma-jig!

I used Stampin’ Addicts Sketch Challenge #66 for this Rosh Hashanah card.

I chose colors that were a little bolder than the first Rosh Hashanah card, but not as bright as yesterday’s. In the process, I also realized that More Mustard and Cherry cobbler are the perfect colors for my brother’s alma mater, USC. (Fight On!)

Stamps: Just Buzzin’ By, Hebrew stamp from Zum Gali Gali
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Cherry Cobbler, More Mustard
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, More Mustard, Naturals White, Autumn Spice Designer Series Paper
Other: Aqua Painter, Stamp-a-ma-jig
I used the same Hebrew stamp as the other day, but this time I used my Stampin’ Write Marker to ink up only “Shana Tova.”

How cute is the smiley little bee from the Every Little Bit stamp set? Combined with some apples, it makes a super cute Rosh Hashanah card! (I picked the apple from the Season of Hugs set in the Holiday Mini Catalog.) I used this week’s sketch from Stamping 411 to create this card.

I have to say, I was fairly uninspired by this sketch, until I saw Sara’s card that she made with it, then something clicked! Which is interesting, because the two cards are nothing alike. Minds are funny that way.

Stamps: Every Little Bit, Season of Hugs, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Garden Green
Paper: Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
Other: Real Red 5/8″ Grosgrain, Word Window Punch, Modern Label Punch, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter
The bees’ wings looked kind of boring when they weren’t colored in, so I added some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. It just perked them right up!

I have left my Rosh Hashanah cards for way too late this year. You can say Rosh Hashanah is early this year, or if you are like my dad, you can say that September is late. Either way you slice it, Rosh Hashanah is in a couple of days and I have left my card making until the last minute. But over the next few days I will show you a few of the different Rosh Hashanah cards I came up with this year. This first one uses two different challenges from Stampin’ Addicts. The first is Technique Challenge #64, where you actual ink up one of your clear blocks to stamp with. So cool! The other is Sketch Challenge #65, which seems made for this technique!

I knew I wanted to use So Saffron ink on the blocks, so I used my Color Coach to come up with this combination. It works great for a Rosh Hashanah card!

Stamps: Tart & Tangy, Hebrew stamp from Zum Gali Gali
Ink: So Saffron, Riding Hood Red, Soft Suede
Paper: So Saffron, Riding Hood Red, Soft Suede, Whisper White
Other: Clear Block B
The Hebrew phrase at the bottom means “May you be inscribed for a good year.”

Tonight marks the start of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. It is one of the most important holidays on the Jewish calendar. One of the customs is to eat apples and honey for a sweet new year. I used that for the theme of the Rosh Hashanah card that I made for this year (though unfortunately I haven’t actually mailed them out yet…) I’ve been planning on using the honey jar from Just Buzzin’ By since I first saw it last December! I made the “sweet new year” saying with a litttle help from my Stampin’ Write Markers and my Stamp-a-ma-jig. I used two of the sayings from Teeny Tiny Wishes — “sweet” came from “sweet treats” and “new year” came from “happy new year.” A big thank you to my friend Debbi for the idea of using the Crushed Curry Designer Prints Series Paper!

Stamps: Just Buzzin’ By, Holiday Blitz, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: StazOn Black, Crushed Curry, Real Red
Paper: Crushed Curry, Real Red, Whisper White, Crushed Curry Designer Prints Series Paper
Accessories: Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Word Window Punch, Modern Label Punch, Stamp-a-ma-Jig, Stampin’ Write Markers
A big thank you to Steve for his help with making a bunch of these!
Shana Tova, Happy New Year, if you are celebrating. May we all be blessed with health and happiness, peace and prosperity in the coming year!
