Masculine

Another great sketch from Stamping 411 this week!

I noticed the other day that I hadn’t used my Tool Shed stamp set much, and I really like it! So I pulled it out to use on this card. I combined it with this cute stamp from Totally Tool for a fun masculine Valentine. Or it could be a home improvement thank you card.

Stamps: Tool Shed, Totally Tool
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla
Other: Not Quite Navy Stripped Ribbon, Labels Collection Framelits Dies

A big thank you to Erika Clark for the great idea on how to mat the Framelit. Bumping it up to the next size would have been too big, so I used her idea to put another of the same size behind it. It gives just a little pop of Cherry Cobbler.

Today is my husband’s birthday, and as you may remember from past cards that I have made for him, woodworking is his passion. I was super excited to see the new Tool Shed background stamp in the big Idea Book & Catalog, with its images of retro tools. I bought it to make cards for Steve, and was super excited to use it for the first time on this birthday card. I really wanted to use my new Simply Scored scoring board, so I made a gate-fold card.

Stamps: Tool Shed, Wood Grain, Upsy Daisy
Ink: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Island Indigo
Paper: Island Indigo, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
Other: Simply Scored, Decorative Label Punch, Square Lattice Textured Impression Embossing Folder, Big Shot

Wondering how I got the layers on the Decorative Label Punch? I punched out two extras of each color to make the mats. I cut one lengthwise, and one width-wise, and then glued them to the back so a bit of the edge showed.

Tomorrow is my dad’s 70th birthday! Wow, had to do the math twice to make sure I got that one right, but yep, it sure is! Stampin’ Addicts had a great color challenge last week, of Pool Party, Pear Pizzaz, and Soft Suede. They were just perfect for Dad’s birthday card. I tried to include some of his favorite symbols into the card.I used my Stampin’ Write Marker on the birthday stamp from Delightful Dozen, so I could use just the part that says “Happy Birthday.” The rest of the stamp is cute, but it didn’t suit this card.

Stamps: Thoughts & Prayers, Delightful Dozen
Inks:
Soft Suede
Papers:
Pear Pizzaz, Soft Suede, Pool Party, In Color Pattern Paper Stack (Pear Pizzaz)

Happy birthday, Dad! Sorry we couldn’t be there to celebrate on your birthday, but I’m glad we celebrated while we were in town!

I know that it is well after Father’s Day, but I wanted to show you the pop-up card I made for Steve. It could easily be used for another occasion by changing out the sentiment. My friend Staci made this same style of pop-up card for a Leadership swap a year and a half ago, and I have been meaning to make one ever since! This is what it looks like when it is all opened up:

Stamps: Totally Tool, Wood Grain, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink:
Chocolate Chip, Real Red, Basic Gray, Crumb Cake
Paper:
Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla
Other:
Modern Label Punch, Gold Brads

It also can lie flat for easy mailing, as you can see in the picture below.

I used the tutorial over on SplitCoast Stampers to make it. It was really fun and much easier than I thought it would be.

Another Father’s Day card to show you today. This one I made for my dad. As before, it can easily be used for any occassion simply by switching out the sentiment. It’s a gate fold card, and uses the retiring Newsprint Designer Series Paper. That will be gone after Thursday! (Though the very similar First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper will still be available.)

Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: VersaMark
Paper: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Newsprint Designer Series Paper
Other: Black Embossing Powder

I heat embossed the tree and the words to add an extra touch of elegance to the card. Since the base of the card is black, I put a piece of Very Vanilla on the inside as well.

There’s a really fun color challenge from ColourQ this week — just in time for the 4th of July!

Since Brilliant Blue is retired, I substituted Pacific Point. I combined this challenge with the Pals Paper Arts “Stars” challenge, and did some emboss resist with the Classic Stars Jumbo Wheel. Unfortunately, this wheel was on the Retiring list and has already sold out.

Stamps: Word Play, Classic Stars Jumbo Wheel
Ink: VersaMark, Pacific Point, Poppy Parade, Tempting Turquoise, Bashful Blue
Paper: Pacific Point, Poppy Parade, Whisper White
Other: Clear Embossing Powder, Poppy Parade Poly Ribbon, I 3/4″ Circle Punch, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, Sponges, Stampin’ Dimensionals

See the mat around the Wish Big circle? I made that by punching it with the scallop circle punch twice. After you punch it the first time, use a Post-it note to make a handle, and out it back in your punch again. But this time offset it so the points punch in the middle of each scallop. It’s an easy way to get a different look out of your punch.

While I realize that Father’s Day is behind us now, I have a few more Father’s Day cards to share with you. All of these are easily adaptable to any type of masculine card you may need, just by swapping out the sentiment. That’s one thing I love about Teeny Tiny Wishes — all of the phrases fit in the Word Window punch for easy customization of any card! This is the card I made for my father-in-law, who is an avid golfer.

Stamps: On the Green, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Garden Green, Basic Black
Paper: Garden Green, Basic Black, Whisper White
Other: Word Window Punch, Modern Label Punch, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder, Big Shot

Remember, this fabulous golfing stamp will not be available to purchase after June 30th. And there are no new golf stamps in the new catalog, so get it while you can!

To go along with the pack of cards that I showed you yesterday, I also needed to include a card with the gift. I wanted to make another golf card, but different. So I decided to make a round card like a golf ball! I decided that scallops are too feminine (Are they? What do you think?), so I used regular circles.

Stamps: On the Green
Ink: Garden Green, Basic Black
Paper: Garden Green, Basic Black, Whisper White
Other: Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Clear Circle Bigz Die, 3 1/2 Circle Die, Big Shot, 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, 1/4″ Basic Black Grosgrain Ribbon

If you have golfers in your life, this single stamp is a great investment!

One of my colleagues who I have worked with for the past ten years is leaving to go pursue his dream of becoming a golf pro. We’ve worked together a long time, and he’s taught Eve for the past two years as well, so I wanted to make him a thank you gift before he left. I put together a pack of these cards and gave it to him earlier this week.

To get the silhouette of the golfer in black, I inked up the whole stamp in Garden Green, and then colored over just the golfer with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. I did not remove the green ink first — the black overpowers it so you don’t have to. It may be hard to see, but the white layer has debossed circles to look like dimples on a golf ball.

Stamps: On the Green
Ink: Garden Green, Basic Black
Paper: Garden Green, Basic Black, Whisper White
Other: Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Big Shot

The hardest part of the end of the school year is saying good-bye to old friends.

I really like this week’s Stamping 411 sketch challenge — it’s nice and clean. They’ve gone all Stampin’ Up only in their challenges, which is great for me, since that’s all I use any way! Stampin’ Up’s easy coordination can’t be beat for making great looking cards. I combined it with the this week’s Color Lab Color Challenge.

I thought that these colors would look great for a masculine card, and I wanted to send my friend Stephanie some more MotoCross cards. I made the sketch a little more masculine by using a torn edge instead of scallops, and a knot instead of a bow and a button.

Stamps: Extreme Dirt Bike, Texture Jumbo wheel
Ink: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Paper: Poppy Parade, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla
Other: Poppy Parade Poly Ribbon

Steph, let me know if you like these and I’ll send you a bunch.
