Jewish

Great monochromatic blue challenge over at Pals Paper Arts this week:

For this one, I decided to pull out my Shalom stamp again. It makes a lovely card for just about any Jewish occasion. It’s been a while since I made an easel card, and they look great and are so easy to make! This one folds down to 4 1/4″ square, so it will fit in a regular envelope and you don’t have to pay any extra postage.

Stamps: Shalom
Ink: Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy
Paper: Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla
Other: Not Quite Navy Striped Ribbon, Finial Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Boho Blossoms Punch, Basic Pearls

I first inked up the whole stamp in Baja Breeze, and then used my Not Quite Navy Stampin’ Write Marker to go over just the word Shalom. The ink  is dark enough that the Baja Breeze doesn’t show through. I also used one of the  flowers from the Boho Blossoms punch to make Jewish Stars again. I love that! And since it is Friday, I will sign off by wishing you a Shabbat Shalom!

I had so much fun making my punch art dreidel yesterday, that I decided to try a punch art Menorah for the Stamping 411 Sketch Challenge!

Ever since I saw the little candle as part of the Create a Cupcake punch, I knew it would be awesome to use for Hanukkah. To complete my Menorah, I also used half a strip from the Word Window punch, and half a 1″ circle. I put a dap of Dazzling Details on each candle flame for a touch of sparkle.

Stamps: Delightful Dozen
Ink: Night of Navy
Paper: Marina Mist, Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, Brushed Silver, Whisper White, Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack, Regals Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack
Other: Cupcake Punch, Word Window Punch, 1″ Circle Punch, Modern Label Punch, Scallop Border Punch, Night of Navy 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon, Dazzling Details

This was a fun little menorah to make. I think it is the first punch art that I’ve come up with on my own.

Thank you all for your good wishes!  It is slow going, but I am beginning to recover from the pneumonia. I haven’t had the energy to stamp anything in awhile, but I do have some projects that I haven’t posted yet.

Did you know that the new Hanukkah Stamp fits perfectly on the top of the Matchbox? Oh yes! And how fabulous is this Tempting Turquoise Embossing Powder?

And here’s a picture of the side (sorry it is blurry) so that you can see that cute little Glimmer Brad knob.

Stamps: Hanukkah
Ink: VersaMark
Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight, Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack
Other: Tempting Turquoise Embossing Powder, Brights Glimmer Brads, Matchbox Bigz XL Die, Big Shot

Occasions Mini Catalogs and Sale-a-Bration Catalogs should be arriving mid-December in your mailbox! If you have purchased from me in the last year, then one is on the way to you! Keep an eye out for them, since there are so many catalogs around this time of year. The Occasions Mini Catalog is regular size, but the SAB catalog is long and skinny. Both are full of fabulous items, as always!

Great blues from ColourQ today!

Of course, I had to use this for a Hanukkah page, and what better than Leo’s first Hanukkah?

I used the Jewish Holiday Sayings Stamp Brush Set to decorate my page. Sorry for such a short post. I was just diagnosed with pneumonia, so my posting may be spotty over the next week or so. Thanks for understanding!

As I mentioned yesterday, I followed Cindy’s fabulous tutorial to make the Jewish Star Card that I showed you yesterday. I learned some things along the way, so I wanted to put together a tutorial for others to enjoy as well. You can use either thin card stock or patterned paper. (I recommend Stampin’ Up Designer Series Paper.) For this tutorial, I will be using card stock. Here is my finished card:

Supplies needed:

  • Card Stock or Designer Series Paper
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Paper Cutter
  • Scoring Tool (such as Stampin’ Up’s Simply Scored)

Start with a piece of card stock or Designer Series Paper that is 10” x 8 3/4”.  Mark the top of the paper at the halfway point of 5”.

Using your ruler, draw a 10”  line from each of the bottom corners to the midpoint that you marked.

Cut along those lines, and you should now have an equilateral triangle that is 10” on every side.

Place one of the sides flat against the left edge of your Simply Scored (or other scoring tool). Score each point at 4 3/8” and 5 7/8”. Rotate the card stock to score all three sides.

Fold the corner in towards the center on the score line closest to the middle, then back out on the score line closest to the tip.

Repeat on all three sides.

Cross fold the outsides, over and under, tucking them in and alternating, all of the way around. Now you have your finished star!

For a more finished look to your Jewish Star Card, you may wish to line the inside.

  • For one layer, create a 5” Equilateral Triangle. Start with a 5” x 4 3/8” piece of cardstock, mark the midpoint at 2 1/2” and follow the same steps above.
  • For a second layer, create a 4 1/2” Equilateral Triangle. Start with a 4 1/2” x 4” piece of cardstock, mark the midpoint at 2 1/4” and follow the same steps above.

After creating these once, I made templates of all of the triangles that I used, to make the creation of multiple cards easier.

Again, here is the outside of the card:

And here it is opened up:

Stamps: Shalom
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze
Paper: Baja Breeze Textured Cardstock, Not Quite Navy Card Stock, Very Vanilla Card Stock
Other:
Simply Scored, 2 3/8” Scallop Circle Punch, 2 1/2” Circle Punch

Would you like a PDF version of this tutorial? You can download it for free here. I also make my tutorials available for Kindle or Nook.

Did you see the amazing Jewish Star cards over on Cindy’s blog last week? They were so incredible, that I had to make some myself! This is the outside of the first one that I made.

And here is the inside. As you can see, it really is a card that you can write inside and everything!

Stamps: Shalom Sayings
Ink:
VersaMark
Paper:
Whisper White card stock, Regals Patterns Designer Series Paper (Night of Navy), Silver Glimmer Paper
Other:
Simply Scored, 2 3/8” Scallop Circle Punch, 2 1/2” Circle Punch, Silver Embossing Powder

I followed Cindy’s fabulous tutorial, and along the way I figured out a few things that worked better for me. I’ll be posting my tutorial here tomorrow. I hope you’ll come back and see!

This is another one of the cards that the Fourth Graders will be making with the seniors on their field trip to the Jewish Home. (See yesterday’s blog post for more information on this Service Learning project.) It also ties in well with the Pals Paper Arts challenge this week, to use ribbon on a project. I think this may be the first time I’ve used the Shalom stamp without embossing it! I decided I wasn’t brave enough to try heat embossing on the field trip. I did manage to bling up the card with some silver glimmer paper though.

Stamps: Shalom
Ink: Night of Navy
Paper: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Very Vanilla, Silver Glimmer
Other: Night of Navy 1 1/4″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon (retired)

Unfortunately, this striped ribbon is no longer available in Night of Navy, though I did see it on the Clearance Rack not that long ago. If you are looking for shades of blue, it is available in Marina Mist and Not Quite Navy.

Another great sketch from Margaret Moody over at Pals Paper Arts this week.

Although I do love square cards, I made this one into a rectangle because I finally got a chance to play with Stampin’ Up’s new Hanukkah Stamp! Isn’t it super cute? I have to say that I didn’t particular like the way they hung the stars and dreidels off of the letters. It made them look a little too much like ornaments, if you know what I mean. Since I was using markers in different colors to ink up my stamp, I simply didn’t color the strings. That’s the great thing about markers on stamps — you can omit whatever you want!

Stamps: Hanukkah
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight
Paper: Marina Mist, Not Quite Navy, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
Other: Marina Mist Scalloped Dotted Ribbon, Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Snow Burst Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Big Shot

We’ll be making this card at Stacey’s holiday card workshop this weekend! I can’t wait!

I really can’t get over how great this Shalom stamp looks embossed in gold on Very Vanilla cardstock. It’s just so stunning! I decided to pair it with the two new In Color blues, and I love how it looks! This card is nice and flat for easy mailing, but the heat embossing as well as the dry embossing keep it interesting.

Stamps: Shalom
Ink: VersaMark, Pool Party
Paper: Crumb Cake, Pool Party, Island Indigo, Very Vanilla
Other: Gold Embossing Powder, Lace Ribbon Border Punch, Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Big Shot

I’m thinking about this card as one of the ones the Fourth Graders will make with the seniors when they go visit the Jewish Home for the Aging in November. The card would be perfect, I’m just trying to decide if I’m brave enough to try heat embossing in a large group again…

A few people over at SplitCoast Stampers were talking about what to put inside these fabulous 1″ x 8″ cello bags that are new in Stampin’ Up’s Holiday Mini Catalog. One woman mentioned honey sticks, and I saw a lightbulb go off in my head! What a perfect Rosh Hashanah gift! I printed out the greetings for the middle on Whisper White cardstock, and then used the little apple stamp from Family Business to decorate them. They say Shana Tova in Hebrew on one side, and Have A Sweet New Year in English on the other. I probably could have squeezed a third honey stick in each bag, but I like the way it looks with two.

Stamps: Family Business
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, More Mustard, Whisper White
Other: 1″x 8″ Cello Bags, Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8″ Circle Punch, 1 1/4″ Circle Punch

If you are interested in creating these yourself, you can download this PDF to print the Rosh Hashanah greetings for the center.
